The Veil Thins

Currently sitting here; another late night editing images. Internally screaming about this set of images with the wonderful EffKate.

Welcome to my first blog post.

This early morning, I made my way to the north western tip of Portland, Oregon. A true crime podcast blares from my speakers, readying myself for an eerie session. Who am I kidding? I always listen to true crime.

The fog is thick as I pass the industrial area of the city. My excitement rises when I see the mighty trees of the valley kissed by the fog as it hangs in the air. The warehouses are replaced by trees who are starting to turn. Soon I would find myself in the woods outside of Katie’s tiny home.

Oh; it’s on… things are about to get spooky.

We grabbed one of her sheer curtains off the rod and set off for the woods!

I love ferns.

I love the shape, the repeating patterns. They are probably one of the most magical things in the forest.

When you are shooting for something so highly specific, with a very particular editing style in mind; watching the images that start to pop up on the back of the camera can be a little disappointing. Usually just for a split second.

On site, during the session, my brain just takes the raw images for face value and almost forgets that I WILL be sprinkling on some Photoshop magic; and everything will come together in the end….it always does.

I can safely say this set was exactly what I had in mind.

With my initial creepy photos out of the way, we could just play and see what we ended up with.

I asked Katie to smudge up her makeup, she put on a felt crown, a neat strappy belt, and changed her dress.

The wonderful Pacific Northwest. The best place to get spooky in the woods!
